When choosing a metal push button switch, the product specification is more important than the appearance alone. A switch may look suitable for a control panel, but its mounting size, electrical rating, switching function, or protection level may not match the actual application. Checking the specifications before purchasing can help engineers and buyers avoid installation problems and unnecessary replacement costs.

One of the most basic specifications is the mounting size. Metal push button switches are commonly available in sizes such as 12mm, 16mm, 19mm, 22mm, and larger diameters. The mounting hole in the panel needs to match the specified cut-out size. Panel thickness is also important because the threaded body and fixing nut must be able to hold the switch securely in place.

The switching function describes how the button operates. A momentary metal push button switch only changes its contact state while it is being pressed. After release, it returns to its original position. This type is often used for start, reset, trigger, and control functions. A latching switch stays in its selected position after pressing and is commonly used for ON/OFF control.

Another important specification is the electrical rating. This normally includes the maximum voltage and current that the switch contacts are designed to handle. Depending on the model, ratings may be specified for AC or DC circuits. Contact configuration, such as SPST or other contact arrangements, should also be checked to make sure the switch is compatible with the circuit design.

The terminal type determines how the switch is connected to the equipment. Common options include solder terminals, screw terminals, wire leads, and PCB-related configurations. The right choice depends on the assembly method and available space inside the equipment.

For applications where the switch may be exposed to water, dust, or other environmental conditions, the IP rating is an important specification. For example, an IP-rated waterproof metal push button can be considered for outdoor equipment, industrial control panels, and equipment exposed to moisture.

Some models include an LED indicator, adding another group of specifications. Buyers may need to check LED color, operating voltage, wiring method, and illumination type. Red, green, blue, white, and other colors can be used to show power, alarm, operating status, or different control functions.

Other specifications can include operating life, button head style, actuator shape and body material. These details can affect both installation and long-term performance.

For engineers and buyers, the most important point is to compare the switch specification with the actual requirements of the equipment. By checking mounting size, function, electrical rating, terminal type, IP protection, LED options, and operating life before ordering, it becomes much easier to select a metal push button switch that fits the product and works reliably in daily use.
